Luiz Soares
I am a researcher whose training combines computer engineering with several years of applied, data-intensive work in the Brazilian public sector. My academic background is in computational intelligence and pattern recognition, and my professional experience spans information systems, data engineering, and analytics for public institutions. At the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), my current work is moving toward complex systems, network science, and agent-based modeling, with a growing interest in how these tools can be applied to computational economics and public policy. I am building this research agenda with an eye toward doctoral study in a related field.

- Complex systems and network science — structure, dynamics, and emergent behavior in social, economic, and institutional systems.
- Agent-based modeling — computational representations of heterogeneous agents to study economic and social phenomena.
- Computational economics — quantitative and simulation-based approaches to economic questions.
- Public policy — applying complexity- and network-informed methods to problems in government and public administration.
