Intended scope

This essay will connect network science to institutional analysis in the public sector, drawing where possible on experience with Brazilian public-sector information systems (described in general terms on the About and Projects pages). Planned themes include:

  • Institutions and agencies as nodes in a network of information, resource, and authority flows.
  • How network structure might help explain bottlenecks, redundancy, or fragility in the delivery of public programs.
  • The limits of applying network methods to institutional data, including data availability and interpretability.
